PERMA CULTURE

Warneet | Mornington Peninsula | Bunurong Country

This extension to a 1960s house adopts a pragmatic response to connecting living areas with the garden, increasing the liveability of the house within the existing building area, and maintaining garden space for food production and habitat creation.

A poorly constructed rear verandah and a series of compartmentalised rooms have been removed and replaced with a practical extension comprising an open plan living area with large kitchen, oriented and connected to the rear garden.

A large, new gable roof provides generous shade to the west end of the house, allowing increased glazing to dissolve the boundary between the living area and the landscape.

Large sliding doors and louvre windows bring in the feeling of being in the garden – natural light, breezes, birdsong and sunsets – all while offering protection from the mozzies.
