EARTHLING ARCHITECTURE provides professional architectural services from concept to completion – clarifying your brief and budget; comprehensive architectural design, consultant coordination and building approvals; builder selection and contract administration; and working with local tradespeople through to project completion. We do all of this with your individual site, brief and budget, and sustainable design principles in mind, to create buildings that belong in their environment, excel in their function, and exceed client expectations.
Client and architect collaboration
Our process starts with listening, observing and understanding the unique requirements of each project, and the aspirations of our clients. With an in-depth understanding of opportunities and constraints, we utilise our design expertise to determine the best approaches for each project, and refine ideas through the design process. We have collaborative relationships with our clients, and use 3D software to communicate the design as it develops. This allows clients to engage in the design process, and results in each of our projects expressing the values of our clients.
Quality over quantity
We undertake projects of varying size, complexity and cost, but always work with care to create inviting, artful, liveable spaces. We achieve this with natural, healthy, sustainable materials, and careful consideration of sunlight, shade, views, breezes and connection to the surrounding environment. The interior design of our projects is just as important as the exterior, and both are considered as part of the whole throughout the design process. We prioritise quality of space over quantity of space, with designs that are environmentally responsive and efficient.
Intelligent and cost effective
Our projects utilise conventional construction technology, simplified geometries, and cost effective materials assembled intelligently, to realise the maximum potential of the site and existing buildings, and the budget. We repair, repurpose and recycle, and use natural and renewable materials and technologies to reduce embodied energy and construction costs. We design for comfort, wellbeing, energy efficiency and longevity, and tap into the power of the sun and the wind to create low-energy, healthy, high-performance buildings that last.
Integrated sustainability
We bring a sustainable perspective to every design decision. Our projects include passive solar design (natural heating and cooling), high-performance insulation and building wrap, architectural double glazed windows; as well as natural, healthy, sustainable materials, and high quality sustainable systems and technology. These are integral to the sustainability of every project, and allowances are made for these elements when clarifying your budget. Natural, renewable materials are not only sustainable – they celebrate nature and our connection to it.
Knowledge and experience
We have a thorough understanding of local planning and building permit requirements. We are experienced in navigating complex planning overlays and building permit regulations while maintaining design integrity, and in successfully negotiating with local authorities and consultants to obtain building approvals. Our approach to this negotiation includes pragmatic designs and practical solutions that meet and exceed performance requirements. We pay attention to changing environments, and design with climate change, bushfire and flood resilience in mind.
Buildability and attention to detail
We are dedicated to elevating the built outcome in the delivery of our projects. We have experienced consultants, suppliers and builders that we regularly collaborate with to develop and refine design, define appropriate construction methods, enhance environmental performance, specify cost effective materials, and accurately estimate construction costs and timeframes. This, combined with our comprehensive construction documentation and attention to detail on-site, is the key to the successful delivery of our projects, and the happiness of our clients.
